Interdisciplinary Health Care

At Stratus, we understand that making a differential diagnosis between disorders that affect the heart and the brain can sometimes be challenging. Syncope and epilepsy can have very similar presentations in some patients and can also exist as comorbidities. As a neurologist, you need to be able to distinguish between these conditions by having access to reliable, high-quality data. Stratus is the nation’s leader in neurodiagnostic services, and we are excited to be able to provide standalone or concurrent cardiac testing with our flagship in-home VEEG services.

The Epileptic Heart

Patients with chronic epilepsy have a 3-fold greater risk of dying from cardiac arrest, and in 66% of cases, the arrest took place during normal activity with no link to seizures. Research by Verrier and Pang has shown that chronic epilepsy has a “negative impact on the structural integrity of the heart.8” In light of this research, they suggest the concept of The Epileptic Heart  to further distinguish the cause of SUDEP as it could be both cardiac and seizure related.  Simply put, patients with chronic, poorly controlled epilepsy experience repeated seizures that can actually damage the heart over time, increasing the risk of cardiac arrhythmias and sudden death.8 The importance of prolonged cardiac monitoring in patients suffering from chronic epilepsy cannot be overstated. Remote cardiac monitoring with Stratus can provide you with long-term insights to better manage patients most at risk of sudden death due to an Epileptic Heart. 8 Verrier RL, Pang TD, Nearing BD, Schachter. Cardiac Testing & Monitoring Solutions

The process of referring a patient to cardiology to schedule an ambulatory ECG can burdensome for both your staff and for the patient. Stratus is leading the way forward in interdisciplinary testing by offering three types of cardiac testing:

  • Extended Holter Monitor Testing
    • 48 hours to 14 days of continuous recording data on a 3 lead ECG device. All data is reviewed post-test.
  • Mobile Cardiac Telemetry (MCT)
    • 48 hours up to 30 days of continuous recording with 24/7 real-time monitoring on a 3 lead ECG device.  Will immediately notify the monitoring team and physician through auto-trigger functionality of early detection of specific arrhythmias such as AFib.
  • Event Monitoring
    • 48 hours to 30 days of event-specific records from both the 3 lead ECG device’s auto-triggered detection and patient push-button markers.

Stratus uses Biotricity’s small, lightweight devices that continuously collect, analyze, and automatically upload 3 channels of ECG, enabling higher quality and more accurate diagnosis. *https://biotricity.com/bioflux/clinics/ Once the study ends, our Certified Cardiographic Technologists (CCTs) send an all-inclusive report to assist you with appropriate diagnosis and treatment.

ECG Interpretations - Heartbeat Health

Stratus has partnered with Heartbeat Health to offer national cardiologist interpretation services for our cardiac testing solutions.

Heartbeat Health is a complete mobile-first model for cardiovascular and heart disease management. Heartbeat’s team of board-certified cardiologists can review and provide interpretation for all adult cardiac tests completed by Stratus and provide a recommendation to the ordering provider.
