Value-based care has been around now for more than a decade, yet the CPT codes for long-term video EEG monitoring were just updated in January 2020. These changes put an emphasis on ensuring the quality of EEG data by lowering the reimbursement for unmonitored long-term ambulatory EEG. This change reflects the fact that in-home studies with intermittent monitoring helps to ensure the quality and yield of a study. The addition of video during the EEG also increases the physician’s ability to make a proper diagnosis and treatment plan that will mitigate the need for the patient to go through multiple tests and claims.
